Sniper: NAFDAC bans open sale of insecticide
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has banned the open sale of Sniper and Dichlorvos (organophosphate used as an insecticide) products in open shops and supermarkets.
NAFDAC's director-general, Moji Adeyeye, said that the ban will take effect from Sunday, September 1 2019. He stated that the products should only be used for outdoor purposes.
Moreover, the agency gave a six-month ultimatum for dealers and manufactures to exhaust the product in their stores.
This followed a motion sponsored by Senator Theodore Orji (PDP-Abia) and 15 others on the rising incidence of deaths among Nigerians. Orji, while making his presentation noted with grave concern, the rising cases of deaths, particularly among young Nigerians.
