Two suspected car snatchers were killed on Monday in Abuja when
their stolen vehicle fell over a bridge and crashed into an empty
residential building in Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory.
Reports said that the suspects, who were three
in number, allegedly snatched a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicle and
were trying to get away with it when the crash occurred.
A
policeman at the scene of the crash said that two of the suspected
car snatchers died instantly while the third was seriously injured.
He said the suspects were on top speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and fell from the bridge.
The
policeman, who pleaded anonymity, said the residents of the area
reported the incident at the Zuba Police Station and men of the force
rushed to the scene.
“It was about 3 a.m. when people from the neighbourhood came to the police station to report the accident.
“On reaching here, the two were already dead and the third badly injured and unconscious.
“The
information we got was that the car was snatched at gunpoint in the
town and men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were chasing them.
“In
their bid to elude SARS, they were on high speed and could not control
the vehicle anymore and they fell off the flyover and rammed into this
building,” he said.
The source said the police recovered some weapons, which include pistols, from the wreckage.
