Goat thief sent to jail

An auto mechanic  Fatai Isiaka, in Ilorin, capital of the Nigerian central state of Kwara, has been ordered detained in the Federal Prison in the city, as his trial opened for alleged goat stealing.

An Ilorin Magistrate Court gave the remand order after Isiaka was charged with criminal conspiracy, belonging to a gang of thieves and having possession of goats reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

The accused, 34, and of no fixed address, ran into trouble along with one Ibrahim now at large on 10 February when they were accosted by passers-by along Pipeline road in Ilorin parking goats into their operational Mazda 323 car with Reg. No Kwara AE 642 ARP.

Sensing danger, they hurriedly entered into their car and escaped with six goats they had allegedly stolen.
They were pursued by some motor cyclists who caught up with them due to an accident they had with a commercial motor cyclist at Pipeline Junction, leading to the recovery of the goats as well as their operational car and also the arrest of the accused while Ibrahim escaped.

According to Police First Information Report, FIR, the accused confessed to stealing the goats along Pipeline Road.

In line with the submission of the prosecutor, Inspector James Odaudu, the trial magistrate, Mr. N.K.Ajide, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case till 18 March for further mention.
