Sunday, August 26, 2012 Tragedy averted as LAGBUS buses collide in Lagos

Tragedy was averted on Friday when two LAGBUS mass transit buses collided at Alagomeji area of Yaba in Lagos State.

The accident reportedly occurred during rush hour on Friday, Eagle Online reports.

Eyewitnesses said the two drivers of the red buses were on full speed and neither was willing to slow down for the other.

When one of the bus drivers attempted to veer into the lane reserved for LAGBUS buses, the other driver refused to slow down, leading to the accident.

The front and rear of the two vehicles were badly damaged while the drivers and some passengers were said to have sustained minor bruises.

But no life was lost.

The accident, however, drew condemnation from passengers as they alighted from the crushed buses, raining curses and abuses on the drivers, whom they accused of reckless driving.

The passengers called on the Lagos State Government to check the excesses of the drivers.

This accident is coming barely one week after a BRT bus ran over a LAWMA cleaner and other bystanders
