The Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police
Command is currently interrogating four bank robbery suspects who were
arrested on Wednesday along Adanloko-Jakande Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos
State, Southwest Nigeria.
As
at the time of their arrest, the four suspects, Ali Kadiri, 30, Victor
Alegbe, 10, Joseph Nnamu, 30 and Kingsley Ekwueme, 30 reportedly had in
their possession seven AK-47 rifles, five pieces of dynamites and bomb
accessories.
Police sources said the suspects also had in their
possession 700 rounds of live ammunition, 59 AK-47 magazines, one K2
rifle, one Lar rifle with 20 rounds of its ammunition, one magazine,
three pump action gun, one single barrel gun and 15 catridges.
They
also had a police inspector’s uniform belonging to an officer they
killed in one of their operations, a Toyota Sienna bus marked AMC 347
AE, one Jaguar Car with registration number Lagos TT 518 KJA and a
Volkswagen commuter bus with Oyo state number, LUY 121 XA.
Parading
the suspects at the police headquarters, Ikeja today, Lagos State
Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko said the Area Commander of Area ‘K’
Police Command, ACP Adesina Soyemi got a distress call and he responded
swiftly with his men to the scene of a robbery at Dapo bus stop at
Ajangbadi.
The suspects opened fire on the police and during the gun fight, three suspects were killed, three arrested.
Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the three suspects.
The fourth suspect was later arrested with the Toyota Sienna bus which they used to stock their arms and ammunition.
After their arrest, the four suspects were referred to SARS for further investigation.
In
their confessional statement, the four suspects allegedly said they
have participated in several bank robberies around Lagos state.
Manko has therefore advised residents to report any suspicious movement to the police.
He reiterated his men’s commitment to combating crime.
