Dead Baby Found In Refuse

A dead baby has been found in a refuse dump at the entrance of Gowon Estate, close to Egbeda, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
It learnt from residents of the area that the baby must have been dumped very early as nobody saw the person who committed the act. Though the dead baby had been taken away before i got to the scene, a resident of Gowon Estate who gave his name as Michael Giwa, said the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday.
“According to him, we woke up only to discover a dead baby among the refuse here.
“Nobody saw the person who dumped the baby, but a person whose house is close to the scene said he heard the baby crying very early in the morning and that it did not occur to her that the baby was dumped.”
Another resident at the Ponle area adjacent to the estate, Mrs. Patience Nwachuckwu, who wondered why anyone would carry out such act which she described as heinous, said the baby had no clothes on but was wrapped in a green towel.
“I couldn’t get close to the place, but I was told the baby must have struggled till it finally died.
“They told me it was a male. Why would any mother do this to a baby she carried for nine months?” She asked.
A resident, Victor Ademola, said he was sure the person who dumped the baby there was not a resident of the estate.
“He or she must have come from another place because if the person I’d from this place, residents would later know,” he said.
It was learnt that the baby was later conveyed in an ambulance belonging to the state government after some of residents called the state emergency number to lodge a complaint.
