An estranged housewife, Adio Abiola, 36,
has been arrested by the police at Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos
Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly pouring hot water
on her rival, Adio Mutiyat, both married to same man.
She was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count
charge of felony to wit, pouring hot water on Adio Mutiyat and causing
her bodily harm.
The police alleged in charge suit number C/41/2012 that the accused was
arrested following a complaint lodged by the family of Adio Mutiyat that
Adio Abiola pour hot water on their daughter, while she was asleep for
unjustifiable reasons and in the process, caused her grievous bodily
harm and was rushed to the hospital.
Following the report, Adio Abiola was arrested and during interrogation,
she could not give satisfactory reasons why she committed the dastardly
act.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the accused had parked out of her
matrimonial home to an apartment within the neighbourhood after her
husband married a second wife which she was not comfortable with.
As if that was not enough, she allegedly boiled water and poured it on her rival while she was sleeping and escaped.
The offences, the prosecutor, Sergeant Babatope Julius said, contravenes
sections 404(1) and 172 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2011.
Part of the charge reads: “You Adio Abiola on 2 October, 2012 at 46,
Vincent Street, Lagos Island in the Lagos magisterial district, did
injured one Adio Mutiyat by pouring hot water on her, thereby causing
her bodily harm.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate, Mrs.
W. B. Balogun granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety
who must provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
She adjourned the case till 12 November, 2012 for mention.
The defendant was remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, when she could not perfect the bail conditions in good time.
