Tragedy
hits the family of late Mr. Okey Sunday when the sudden news of their dear
brother and son’s death came whispering. He was confirmed dead on Friday 20th
July, 2012 at about 4pm in a car at Ojo-Volts road. He died of heart related
disease.
The
midfielder who complained of kidney and heart pain since July 9 this year, died
in a car after been driven away from Oyems hospital, Franlas, Ojo. He died in
the presence of his mother after he had gasped.
It was
gathered that the deceased died after few kilometers away from the hospital
(Oyems) has rejected them due to certain reasons that are unaccepted by the
family.
Confirming
the death, the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Okey disclosed that “he was
supposed to receive preferential treatment from the hospital but certain things
disrupt the treatment, she did not tell the reasons.
I did not
know that the death of my son will come beyond my expectation. His death has
caused a great grief in my heart, she concluded in trauma.
However, as
at the time of gathering information from different sources about the
deceased’s death, Mr. Okey Johnson (deceased father) noted that Sunday’s body
have been deposited in a mortuary.
At the time
of interviewing the deceased, most residents of Ojo are going up and down to
have the details of his death because they are not aware of his demise.
Contacting
the deceased coach, Cyril Okoye on mobile the next day, he broke up in tears,
saying “you people should leave mi alone. I am sick and tired of the death
thing, death everywhere. The forty-three year old Enugu born continued, “I
don’t have much to say but I pray that his soul rest in the bosom of the Most
High. Bye bye”, uninspired Okoye trying to put himself together after lamenting
over his player’s death.
In an
interview with a co-player of the deceased, Dike Ekene expressed shock over
Sunday’s death. It was a jeremiad that we lost a valuable palyer in the
football fraternity.
“Jehovah! I
was surprised and weakened when I heard of the passing of my dearest brother
and friend. The memory of our playing football together and chatting is still
intact in my memory. This is still very difficult to believe”
When asked
about the relationship with the deceased, “both of us were like twins in the
team. They called us Aki and pawpaw. We
played together in many competitions and won
trophies together. He is a guru midfielder and cool. I am
speechless”, Ekene grief.
Sunday who
just clocked 27 on 26th of last month was popularly called Sky. He was a founder member of Dew
Football Academy and led the club to victory in Chairman cup in 2003,
